DOHA: Ministry of Education and Higher Education represented by the Assistant Under-secretary for Educational Affairs yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QatarDebate Center (QD) a member of Qatar Foundation (QF).
The agreement was signed by Fawziya Al Khater, Assistant Under-secretary for Educational Affairs and Dr Hayat Abdullah Maarafi, Executive Director of QatarDebate Center, at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Fawziya Al Khater said: 'It is my pleasure to share with you this ceremony which comes under the joint cooperation with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development; such ceremony which represents a shining image of community participation, which we all endeavour to promote, in order to organise and support high quality and innovative learning opportunities at all levels, through the educational programs provided by the Ministry, which in turn help the development of the needed knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for members of the Qatari community.
'The Memorandum of Understanding, which we are honored to sign today with the QatarDebate Center, will foster fruitful cooperation between us in supporting QatarDebate Center to provide students with appropriate training on debating skills, enhancing their research, cognitive abilities as well as their ability to engage in dialogues. Moreover, such training provides students with opportunities to develop and support a culture of debate and discussion, at a time in which dialogue based on reasoning, logic, and persuasion, far from fanaticism and extremism, is most needed.
Dr Hayat Maarafi said: 'We are delighted to renew the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education because we renew the frameworks of cooperation and agreement built after years of joint work.
Dr Hayat praised the cooperation and said: 'The Ministry's staff is our partners in success and we always aspire to their support and encouragement for us and for distinctive schools in this field to be engaged in learning debate. We ask God to crown the efforts made with success and fulfil the desired goals
It is worth mentioning that the two parties have already concluded a memorandum of understanding in 2014 - a period of one year - to be renewed automatically, in view of what is expected to achieve fruitful results for both parties and according to the objectives and joint endeavours, and they have decided to re-sign the agreement starting from today for 3 years.
It is anticipated that cooperation will focus on organising schools debate tournaments, Debate clubs inside schools, and workshops on subjects of mutual interest.
