Zahra Foundation Australia

Zahra Foundation Australia is a South Australian based charity that supports women and children affected by domestic and family violence. We focus on the financial abuse and financial disadvantage most often experienced as a result of domestic violence. We do this through delivering programs and distributing grants that promote the economic empowerment of women.

The foundation has been established in honour of Zahra Abrahimzadeh who was tragically murdered by her husband at the Adelaide Convention Centre in 2010. Zahra was murdered at a Persian New Year event in front of 300 witnesses.

Her three children have worked closely with the domestic violence sector to establish a charity that supports the needs of women and their children and address gaps in the system.

Zahra Foundation works hard to raise funds to deliver the much needed programs and services that help women create pathways into further education, training and employment.

We need your help to cover some the basic costs of our program delivery including venue hire and catering.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and consider contributing to this important cause.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Zahra Foundation delivers a 9 week program for women who have been affected by domestic and family violence. The primary focus is to assist women to acheive economic independence by creating pathways for them into further education, training and employment.

Funds raised through this campaign will support the addition costs of venue hire and catering. Many women attending our program are social isolated and so we deliver our training within the last Women's Community Centre in SA. Providing the training in this location means these women can connected with others in their community as well as other womens programs and access to a meal and discounted food and clothing via their kitchen and op shop facilities. The Centre also provides volunteering and other opportunities that gives women new skills and builds their capacity to break the cycle of violence and abuse in their lives.

This program has seen many positive outcomes for women including volunteering, enrolling into further studies at TAFE and paid employment.

The Challenges

We want to nurture our relationship with the Community Centre and be able to maintain our service delivery from the centre. In order to do this we need to raise enough funds as to cover the costs of using the centres facilities. The cost for the centre hire is $80 per day (one day per week) and $8 per head catering per woman per week. 13 women attend our programs each term and so our target is to raise at least $1656 to cover our expenses for Term 2 2017. We also need to continue to raise a similar amount each Term for the next 12 months.
