DOHA: Inspectors detected a restaurant providing meals not up to the health standards during an inspection campaign being conducted by the Health Monitoring Section in Al Khor-Al Dhakhira Municipality against any violations by food outlets.

The restaurant has been shut down in addition to an errant food shop in new Industrial Area in Al Khor for working without licence.

The inspection campaign has been intensified as the Holy Month of Ramadan approaches.

Inspectors take samples of meat, chicken, milk, mineral water and other food items and send them to central laboratories at the Ministry of Public Health for test to verify if the food items are safe for human consumption.

Matar Mohamed Al Kuwari, Head of Health Monitoring Section at the municipality, has urged people to benefit from Al Khor Abattoir services.

He said the slaughterhouse will be working daily from 5am to 5pm during Ramadan to avoid crowds and enable veterinarians to check meat samples.

The inspection campaign covers all fruit and vegetable shops, sweets shops, poultry companies and manufacturers of milk and milk products to ensure that they are complying with health standards.
