Rains, thunderstorms to hit Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are expected in several parts of the country, the Met office has said.

Forecast for Thursday to Sunday says that impact of wet weather will be seen in Muscat, Musandam, Buraimi, Dakhliyah, Batinah and Sharqiyah governorates.

''We are expecting continuous rain. The weather will be pleasant with cool breeze. However, there will be no break from rain over the weekend,'' said an official from the Directorate General for Meteorology and Air Navigation, attributing the conditions to a surface trough coming in from the Red Sea area.

''The disturbances are due to low pressure areas. The weather is expected to remain unstable from Thursday,'' the Met official said. Moderate southerly winds will blow over most areas, kicking up dust and sand and decreasing visibility.

The Met official also said that an upper air cold mass is expected to enter the country on Thursday, turning the skies partly cloudy to cloudy at times with scattered rainfall through the evening and night. ''The cold upper air mass will intensify the instability in weather in general, giving rain of different intensity in the north,'' he sai
