Pope Francis apologizes for 'grave mistakes' in Chile abuse case
(MENAFN) Pope Francis admitted that he committed "grave mistakes" while managing a sexual abuse scandal that awakened mayhem in Chile.
In his letter to Chilean bishops, the Pope addressed abuse victims who were questioned by him, expressing his wish to deliver an apology for them.
The pontiff confessed in the letter "I have made grave mistakes in the assessment and my perception of the situation, due in particular to a lack of truthful and balanced information."
He then added "I apologize to all those I have offended and I hope to be able to do it personally in the coming weeks, in the meetings I will have (with victims)."
It comes after the Pope stood with Chilean bishop Juan Barros during his January trip to Chile, dismissing accusations of covering up for Reverend Fernando Karadima who is charged for abusing children.
