Former Mount Lavinia OIC remanded over Lasantha murder probe

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) /wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Lasantha.jpg">The former Mount Lavinia Police Crimes Officer In Charge (OIC) has been remanded till February 16 after being arrested in connection to ongoing investigations over the murder of the founding Editor of The Sunday Leader newspaper, Lasantha Wickrematunge.

Sub Inspector Tissa Sugathapala was arrested and remanded to be questioned further over the murder of the journalist in 2009.

Meanwhile, state media reported that key information had surfaced during the interrogation of the former Mount Lavinia Police Crimes OIC following his arrest.

He is accused of concealing and destroying information pertaining to the killing of Lasantha Wickrematunge.

State media also reported that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is expected to arrest a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), a Deputy Inspector General of Police and several others in relation to the investigations.

Further, the CID is also expected to obtain a statement from a former high ranking government official who is believed to have been the main advisor in this crime, state run Daily News reported. (Colombo Gazette)
