Chinese peacekeeping troops head for Lebanon


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A new batch of Chinese peacekeeping troops and a 30-member medical team left China for Lebanon Tuesday for peacekeeping mission, state-run China Central Television reported.

The new batch of peacekeeping troops consisting of 180 soldiers and officers is to replace the previous batch of peacekeepers in Lebanon for an eight-month peacekeeping mission, the report said.

The peacekeeping troops include engineers who have the expertise in mine-sweeping, construction, explosive removal and maintenance.

"Among the soldiers and officers, 89 have participated peacekeeping missions and mine-sweeping trainings in foreign countries and 31 have carried out rescue operations in earthquakes. We have organized specific trainings based on the situations in the Middle East," said Sun Zhi, commander of the troops.
