FBI: ISIS May Take More Hostages in Order to Force US Concessions

(MENAFN- QNA) US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey said in written testimony to Congress Wednesday that Americans within reach of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) may be at risk of being kidnapped.

"We are deeply concerned about the safety and security of American citizens worldwide," Comey said in his written testimony ahead of a hearing in front of the House Homeland Security Committee. "ISIS and other foreign terrorist organizations may continue to try to capture American hostages in an attempt to force the US government and people into making concessions that would only strengthen ISIS and further its terrorist operations," he said.

Isis is "committed to instilling fear and attracting recruits" and to drawing public attention, as shown through its use of social media and in videos it released of the beheadings of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, said FBI director James Comey.

"Isil's widespread use of social media and growing online support intensified following the commencement of US air strikes in Iraq," Comey said.
