Maraya Art Centre ready for 4th PechaKucha Night in Sharjah

(MENAFNEditorial) Maraya Art Centre - an initiative by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and the innovative contemporary visual arts hub – will be hosting the fourth edition of the popular and innovative PechaKucha Night Sharjah.

Taking place on the 22nd of February at the Maraya Community, this is the most recent in a series of events, co-organised by Sharjah natives Salem Al Qassimi, founder of Fikra Design Studio and Maryam Al Dabbagh, an independent writer and researcher. An innovative platform for creative expression, the idea behind PechaKucha Night has become a worldwide phenomenon. Originating in Tokyo, Japan, the concept was first introduced by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, of Tokyo's Klein-Dytham Architecture firm, with the title "PechaKucha" being a transliteration of the Japanese term for the sound of "chit-chat"

Speaking about the event, Maraya Art Centre's Manager Giuseppe Moscatello said, "Maraya Art Centre's primary mandate has always been to foster talent in Sharjah, the UAE, and the region and in this regard the PechaKucha Nights have been a spectacularly successful platform. Now as we approach the final edition in this series, we are looking forward to a truly memorable event. We have some very exciting concepts and ideas that will be presented; ideas that will undoubtedly spark lively debate and act as a springboard for many more creative endeavours to come.

PechaKucha presentations are based on a simple 20x20 format, which allows each to show 20 images with 20 seconds allocated per image. This format allows for succinct and articulate presentations, offering an impressive opportunity to aspiring artists, visionaries, entrepreneurs, and members of the general public to express their ideas, showcase their talents, reach out, and network.

This fourth edition of PechaKucha Night Sharjah will once again feature a diverse selection of projects and topics introducing nine participants in total from different nationalities coming together on one platform to express their creative concepts evolving around multimedia, non-profit and creative initiatives, humorous ideas, and life experiences and journeys to the audience of the night.

The 4th PechaKucha Night Sharjah will witness presentations by Moza Al Matrooshi from Xpose who will be introducing 'The Idea Factory', stand-up comedian and advertising executive Rami Salame who will be exploring a 'connection' that he has found between popcorn and the origin of human communication, and Yorgos Kleivokiotis who will be presenting UP Greek Tourism.

Furthermore, Mohamed Al Sarkal will take the opportunity to talk about his experiences and how they inspired a change in his life which resulted in him starting his blog 'The Awkward Corner', while Farah Shamma and Yazan will be presenting their special project to promote the spoken word/poetry in Arabic – 'IIla Shamal Afrikya / Spreading Spoken Word'

Mohammed Al Nabulsi's presentation will aim to highlight the work being done by the Sharjah City of Humanitarian Services and there will also be a special presenter in the person of Farhana Abdelhakim, the first hearing impaired student to complete a university degree in the UAE. The final presentation for the night will be delivered by Ghadir El Ghafri, who will be introducing her startup online grocery service and a mobile application

Hosting PechaKucha Night Sharjah is in line with Maraya Art Centre's commitment to provide the community in Sharjah with a platform for creative individuals to network and be inspired
