(MENAFN) Cambodia's National Election Committee (NEC) has threatened to impose fines and criminal charges against anyone who promotes a boycott of the approaching general election.
The Law on Election of Members of the National Assembly entails that people who call for boycott could be fined between USD1.250 and USD5.000, along with the potential to face criminal charges, NEC explained in its statement.
It then urged "the NEC would like to appeal to those individuals to stop their contrary-to-law activities immediately."
The NEC also sent an appeal for eligible voters to make use of their rights to elect and cast their vote in the upcoming election on July 29.
