Amnesty Urges Israel to Stop Khan al-Ahmar Displacement Plans

(MENAFN) According to reports, Amnesty International has urged Israeli authorities to abandon plans that could lead to the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar, located east of occupied East Jerusalem, warning that such actions may constitute a “war crime.”

In a post shared on the US social media platform X, the organization said Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich had directed the initiation of procedures aimed at relocating residents and demolishing their homes and property.

Amnesty also noted that Bezalel Smotrich reportedly connected the move to developments involving a request by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for arrest warrants against him on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The organization emphasized that forced displacement is prohibited under international law, stating that “Unlawful transfer is a war crime and can constitute a crime against humanity,” and further argued that such measures, if carried out as retaliation against international judicial processes, reflect a disregard for international legal norms.

As stated by reports, Amnesty International described the situation facing residents of Khan al-Ahmar as a prolonged struggle marked by threats of removal, demolition, and what it called state-backed settler violence. The organization linked these developments to Israel’s broader E1 settlement plan, which it says would divide the West Bank and further fragment Palestinian communities under occupation.
