Poland Calls for Accountability Over Treatment of Detained Gaza Flotilla Activists

(MENAFN) Poland has demanded accountability and “justice” for its nationals following the circulation of footage showing the treatment of activists detained after attempting to sail toward Gaza as part of a humanitarian convoy. The controversy emerged after a video shared by an Israeli official appeared to show detained individuals being restrained after interception at sea.

Poland’s foreign minister, writing on the US social media platform X, condemned the treatment of Polish citizens involved, stating, “You may not treat Polish citizens who have committed no crime in this way,” and emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable in democratic systems. He further added, “In the democratic world we do not abuse and gloat over people in custody,” and called for stronger accountability, saying, “We demand justice for our citizens and consequences for you,”

The diplomatic reaction followed the release of footage reportedly showing activists bound and forced to kneel after being detained by Israeli forces in international waters during an operation against a flotilla bound for Gaza.

According to reports from the humanitarian mission, all vessels participating in the aid convoy were intercepted and taken by Israeli authorities during the incident.
