Hamas Condemns Treatment of Gaza Flotilla Activists

(MENAFN) Hamas has issued a strong condemnation of what it described as the mistreatment and humiliation of activists involved in a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla intercepted at sea, accusing Israeli authorities of engaging in abusive conduct and calling for global accountability measures.

In a statement, the group claimed that the reported treatment of detainees reflects what it called moral decline and deliberate cruelty by Israeli leadership. It argued that such actions are intended to discourage humanitarian efforts aimed at challenging the blockade on Gaza and to undermine participation in future aid missions.

The statement further called for the immediate release of the detained activists and urged international institutions to document the incident and pursue legal steps, including filing complaints with international judicial bodies over alleged violations of humanitarian law.

The condemnation followed the circulation of footage showing detained activists at a port facility after the interception of the flotilla. The videos, shared and broadcast through various channels, appeared to show restrained individuals and included commentary from Israeli officials characterizing the activists in hostile terms.

According to reports from organizers of the mission, dozens of vessels carrying hundreds of participants from multiple countries were intercepted by Israeli forces while traveling in international waters. The convoy had departed from a Turkish port earlier in the week as part of an attempt to deliver aid and challenge the longstanding blockade on Gaza.
