China, US Cooperate on Cross-Border Drug Trafficking Case

(MENAFN) China and the United States have carried out a coordinated operation targeting a transnational network involved in trafficking new psychoactive substances, according to reports.

China’s Ministry of Public Security said a joint investigation was initiated in 2024 between its narcotics control bureau and the Drug Enforcement Administration under the US Department of Justice.

As part of the case, Chinese authorities arrested a suspect surnamed Gong in Tianjin in February this year after receiving leads from US counterparts. Separately, US officials had previously detained an American suspect in the state of Georgia linked to the same investigation.

The operation was described by Chinese authorities as an example of structured and ongoing law enforcement coordination between the two countries in combating drug-related and cross-border criminal activity.

Officials further stated that the outcome reflects a firm commitment by both sides to maintaining a “zero tolerance” approach toward drug trafficking and transnational crime, according to reports.
