Iran Says US Failed to Reopen Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Tensions

(MENAFN) Iran has stated that the United States was unable to reopen the Strait of Hormuz despite what Tehran described as repeated “tricks,” according to reports.

An official from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said the strategic waterway remained under Iranian control following orders from IRGC Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri. The official claimed that US efforts to reverse the situation had failed and emphasized that Iranian forces remain on high alert and prepared for any escalation, stating they are operating “with fingers on the trigger.”

Separately, an Iranian military source told a Russian state outlet that the country possesses advanced weapons systems that have not yet been deployed in combat, adding that Iran faces no shortage in defensive capabilities and would respond without restraint if confronted.

Iranian maritime authorities also announced new regulatory measures for the Strait of Hormuz, establishing an oversight zone requiring vessels passing through designated areas to coordinate with Iranian officials. The measures reportedly apply to shipping routes between Iran and the United Arab Emirates at both ends of the key maritime passage.

The statements come amid heightened regional tensions following earlier military confrontations involving Iran, the US, and Israel, which included strikes, retaliatory attacks, and disruptions affecting maritime traffic in the Gulf region.

A temporary ceasefire was reportedly reached in April through mediation efforts, though longer-term stability has remained uncertain amid continued disputes over maritime access and sanctions-related restrictions, according to reports.
