Mother, Her Three Children Found Dead After Falling from 13th Floor
(MENAFN) A mother and her three children have died after plunging from the 13th floor of a residential building in Toulon, southeastern France, authorities confirmed Wednesday, in what prosecutors suspect was a deliberate act by the mother.
The fatal incident was first reported by a French broadcaster. Investigators believe the 38-year-old woman jumped from the building with her three children, according to the local public prosecutor.
Authorities indicated the mother had been exhibiting "psychiatric and depressive symptoms, which remain to be confirmed," the prosecutor stated, suggesting a troubled mental state may have preceded the tragedy.
Four of the woman's other children were inside the apartment when emergency services arrived at the scene.
Prosecutors were careful to note the absence of outside involvement. "At this stage, there is no evidence suggesting the involvement of a third party," the prosecutor said.
A formal criminal investigation has since been launched on suspicion of murders committed by a parent against their own children, operating under the jurisdiction of the Toulon prosecutor's office.
