5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia: An earthquake measuring five magnitude on the Richter scale struck eastern Indonesia Thursday.
A statement issued by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake struck 231 km west of the Tanimbar Islands, at a depth of 137 km.
No tsunami warnings were issued.
Indonesia lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
