Israel Announces ‘Yellow Line’ Zone in Southern Lebanon Amid Clashes
(MENAFN) The Israeli military has announced the establishment of a so-called “Yellow Line” in southern Lebanon, stating that it has taken action against individuals it claims approached the designated area.
In a statement released on Saturday, the army said its forces operating in what it described as the “Yellow Line” zone south of the Litani River had identified what it called “a terrorist cell who violated the ceasefire understandings and approached the forces from north of the Yellow Line in a manner that posed an immediate threat” over the past 24 hours.
According to the statement, Israeli forces responded by striking the group using both air and ground operations, with artillery support also deployed in the area.
This marks the first public reference by Israel to a “Yellow Line” in Lebanon, which it described as a self-declared buffer zone similar to arrangements previously implemented in Gaza after the outbreak of war in October 2023.
The military also stated that such operations are “not restricted by the ceasefire.”
In a separate written statement sent to a media outlet, the Israeli army said armed individuals were seen approaching its forces south of the “Yellow Line” on Friday, prompting troops to open fire “to eliminate the threat.”
As of the time of reporting, there was no immediate response from Lebanese authorities or Hezbollah regarding the Israeli claims.
