Khartoum, 1 February 2026 ( Sudanow) - Khartoum International Airport today received its first domestic flight since the liberation of the capital from the desecration of the rebel militia. The flight was operated by the national carrier, Sudan Airways, arriving from Port Sudan, in an event widely seen as signaling the return of life to the civil aviation sector.

The arrival of the flight comes as the culmination of an official announcement made a day earlier, following Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris being briefed on the current status of the national carrier, Sudan Airways, and the ongoing efforts to develop and modernize it. This took place during his meeting at his office in Khartoum with a company delegation headed by the airline's Director General, Captain Mazen Al-Awad. The meeting reviewed the future of the national carrier and plans for improvement and rehabilitation, with assurances that the coming phase holds promising developments that will positively impact the aviation sector.

At the time, Captain Mazen Al-Awad announced the launch of the first domestic flight between Port Sudan and Khartoum, describing it as the starting point for Sudan Airways' return to regular operations and a preparatory step toward resuming regional and international flights, including European destinations, in the coming period.

For his part, Mr. Sir Al-Khatim Babiker Al-Tayeb, Director of Khartoum International Airport, affirmed the airport's readiness to carry out its assigned duties, expressing his satisfaction with the resumption of operations. He noted that the airport is capable of handling four aircraft simultaneously. He added that work is ongoing to complete technical and security preparations, emphasizing that this flight represents the first launch achieved through the determination of airport staff in service of Sudan, and that the resumption of domestic aviation is a fundamental step toward global operations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohamed Jaafar Hassan, Director of Airport Security Operations, stated that all security arrangements have been completed and that teams are ready for the next phase. He praised the solidarity and unified efforts of airport staff, describing the event as a genuine victory for the Sudanese will.

In a survey conducted by SUNA, passengers aboard the Sudan Airways flight expressed great joy at the return of air services, confirming that the journey was conducted in a safe and secure environment. They described the flight as a return to life and openness to the world, voicing hopes for security and peace in Sudan and for the resumption of international flights in the near future.
