Australian Federal Police reveals Bondi Beach shooters acted alone

(MENAFN) Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett confirmed Tuesday that the father and son accused of the mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney were acting independently, with no evidence linking them to a broader network.

The attack, which occurred on December 14 during a Hanukkah celebration, left 15 people dead and around 42 others injured. One of the alleged shooters was killed during the incident, while the other, 24-year-old Naveed Akram, was critically injured and has now been charged with 59 offenses, including 15 counts of murder.

Barrett stated there was no indication that Naveed and his father, Sajid, were directed or supported by any outside individuals or groups. “Given impending court processes and other security matters, I can't provide all the details that we have,” she said.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the government’s decision not to establish a national royal commission into the attack, emphasizing the focus on national unity and recovery.
