Russian drone strike cuts power across Odesa districts
(MENAFN) A Russian drone strike on Odesa on Monday caused power outages across multiple districts of the southern Ukrainian city, disrupting public transportation and prompting emergency services to set up round-the-clock support points, according to local officials.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, wrote on Telegram that the attack left “no electricity supply in several areas of the city,” noting that operational teams were deployed to handle the situation.
“The invincibility points are open for visits around the clock,” he added, referring to designated shelters providing heat and essential services during outages.
Lysak also reported that electric transport on several routes was interrupted, while repair crews worked to restore services.
Ukraine’s Air Force said that a group of Russian UAVs approached the region from the Black Sea near Chornomorsk, with drones spotted over the Odesa area during the attack. Local media reported that port infrastructure in the region sustained damage during a separate overnight strike.
On the same day, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense systems shot down 40 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions between 2 p.m. (1100 GMT) and 8 p.m. (1700 GMT) Moscow time. The ministry said these included “14 UAVs over the Moscow region, including eight en route to Moscow,” as well as drones intercepted over Crimea, the Black Sea, Bryansk, Kaluga, and Kursk. No information was provided regarding any resulting damage from these incidents.
