Türkiye Urges Immediate Halt to Violence in Sudan’s El-Fasher
(MENAFN) Türkiye on Tuesday demanded the prompt cessation of hostilities in El-Fasher and its surrounding regions in Sudan.
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry called for safe passage, unobstructed delivery of humanitarian assistance, and an end to assaults targeting innocent civilians.
Highlighting that Ankara is monitoring the latest developments in Sudan with grave concern and aligning with the statements issued by the Arab League, the ministry denounced the atrocities inflicted on civilians in El-Fasher, which came under the control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the past weekend.
The ministry reaffirmed Türkiye's firm backing for Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
A civil war between the Sudanese army and the RSF has been ongoing since April 2023, resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing more than 14 million people.
