(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The Canadian ambassador to Egypt is leading a four-day mission to Alexandria, reviving a tradition of“symbolically moving the embassy” to the coastal city for a few days and hosting the first“Iskandarani Canada Day,” the embassy announced.

Ambassador Ulric Shannon and the embassy team will engage with partners and key stakeholders in education, trade, women's economic empowerment, and culture during the visit.

The ambassador is scheduled to meet with the Governor of Alexandria, Ahmed Khaled, the President of Alexandria University, Abdelaziz Konsowa, and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.

“This year we're bringing a taste of Canada to the Pearl of the Mediterranean as we're committed to strengthening our partnerships across Egypt,” Shannon said in a statement.“Canada is broadening its trade and investment ties across global markets, and we're aiming to deepen our relationships with key stakeholders. By doing so, we're opening new doors for both Canadian and Alexandrian businesses and promoting sustainable growth across our societies.”

Shannon will also visit a workshop led by Alexandrian women entrepreneurs supported by the Canada-funded“Rabeha” women's economic empowerment project. The embassy's consular team will host a passport clinic for Canadians in Alexandria.

Canada's bilateral development programme in Egypt currently invests more than $9 million annually in projects aimed at inclusive economic growth, climate action, food security, and refugee support.

“In Alexandria, we'll be meeting development partners and women entrepreneurs who benefited from Canada's support and serve as role models for women leadership,” the ambassador said.
