Syria Denounces Israeli Attacks as Flagrant Breach of International Law

(MENAFN) Syria sharply condemned a wave of Israeli airstrikes on Monday targeting multiple locations within its borders, branding the attacks a “blatant violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.”

According to media, Israeli jets launched strikes on the outskirts of Homs, Latakia, and Palmyra.

In an official statement, Syria’s Foreign Ministry denounced the operations as “a flagrant breach of Syria’s sovereignty and a direct threat to its security and regional stability.” The ministry further criticized the attacks as part of Israel’s ongoing “series of aggressive escalations against Syrian territory.”

“Syria categorically rejects any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or endanger its national security,” the statement added.

The ministry called on the global community—especially the UN Security Council—to “assume its legal and moral responsibilities, take a clear and firm stance to put an end to these repeated attacks, and ensure respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Despite the change in Syrian leadership since December 2024, which poses no direct threat to Israel, Israeli forces have repeatedly crossed into Syria, conducting airstrikes that have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to military infrastructure, vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.

For over seven months, Israeli troops have maintained control over Syria’s Mount Hermon, representing their deepest advance beyond their borders. They also enforce a 15-kilometer (9.32-mile) wide security zone in southern Syria, impacting more than 40,000 residents in this occupied buffer area.

Israel has held the majority of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and intensified its territorial hold following the events leading to President Bashar Al-Assad’s removal in late 2024.
