Video: 100 Missing After Floods In Uttarakhand's Dharali, Says Minister

A flash flood driving a torrent of mud smashed into Dharali in Uttarakhand, located in India's Himalayan region on Tuesday, killing at least four people with around 100 others missing, a minister said.

"It is a serious situation... We have received information about four deaths and around 100 people missing. We pray for their safety," Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.

Relief teams have been deployed, and teams from the Army National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is at the site for rescue operations. Watch a video here:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to those "affected by this tragedy". Several politicians expressed their sympathy, and spoke of readiness to assist.

Uttarakhand is prone to floods and landslides, which some experts blame on climate change.

At least 200 people were killed in 2021, when flash floods swept away two hydroelectric projects in the state.
