Update: Two People Allegedly Linked to the Attempted Murder of a Judge have been Arrested
Panama City, Panama: A joint operation between the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Police resulted in the arrest of two people and the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and illicit substances during Operation Óptima, carried out in the districts of Calidonia and Las Garzas. The main suspect arrested is a man allegedly linked to the attempted murder of Superior Court of Appeals judge Andrés Reyes, an attack that took place on June 27 in the El Chorrillo area. Authorities arrested him in the town of Calidonia.
During a second operation in the San Miguel area, officers seized a firearm, a replica weapon, ammunition, magazines, suspected illicit substances, and technological equipment. During this same operation, another individual was arrested, accused of alleged drug-related crimes against public security. The Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office's Homicide and Femicide Section, in coordination with the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ), directed both operations as part of the ongoing investigations. It was learned that the detainees and the collected evidence were transferred to the competent authorities to continue with the corresponding legal proceedings.
