FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The Martyrs and Disabled Department has started distributing financial assistance to disabled individuals and the heirs of martyrs in western Ghor province.

Head of Martyrs and Disabled Maulvi Gul Ahmad Mutawakl told Pajhwok Afghan News:“About 320 million afghanis will be distributed to three quarters of disabled and heirs of martyrs in 1404 solar year”.

“We have distributed more than 45 million afghanis so far, and this process is ongoing to distribute it to all the disabled and heirs of martyrs in the province, so that everyone can receive their rights”.

According to him, 8,214 people with disabilities and 3,136 families of martyrs have been registered with the department, and their money would be distributed within 9 months in the province.

They are trying to cooperate with central authorities to secure the budget needed for final months of 1404 solar year and provide it to people with disabilities and families of martyrs, he added.

Some disabled people and heirs of martyrs, who received their rights, expressed gratitude to the government and said though the aid could not meet all their needs, it could partially resolve some of their financial problems.

Abdul Qayum Behboudi, a disabled person, told Pajhwok:“The amount of money varies for people with disabilities. Some are given 8,900 afghanis and others 21,900 afghanis”.

He asked the officials of the Department not to forget disabled people who are unable to work and to provide them with more assistance.

“I was 12 years old when my left leg was amputated, I endured many hardships until today. I have two children and my husband is unable to work, we barely make ends meet and with this money, we are happy and have bought food for our home”: Ms. Eidi Mah, a resident of Ferozkoh, explained.

She urged the government and institutions to pay more attention to the situation of disabled because they do not have enough ability to provide for their families.

Enayatullah Rahimi, a survivor of martyrs, expressed his happiness over the government's distribution of money to the heirs of martyrs. He added currently, this money can meet the needs of his brother's children.

“My brother was martyred in a landmine explosion, leaving behind a daughter and two sons, and his wife. Their lives were not good, and the government distributed 2,000afs to each heir of the martyr, which has made his orphans very happy. We expect the government and institutions to also distribute food and non-food aid to the heirs of the martyrs so that their children do not resort to begging”.

The rights of martyrs and disabled are being distributed at a time when poverty, hardships, and successive droughts have caused many families, especially the disabled and survivors of martyrs, to face numerous problems and challenges.
