Amman, June 19 (Petra) – The Karak Castle Center for Consulting and Training launched a new project on Thursday aimed at enhancing the leadership and media capabilities of women in parliament, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs and the Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum, with support from the French Embassy.
Attended by several female Members of Parliament, the project seeks to strengthen the leadership, legislative, advocacy, and media skills of women in the 20th Lower House of Parliament through targeted capacity-building programs.
Director of the Karak Center, Israa Mahadin, stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to empower women in political decision-making and challenge prevailing societal stereotypes. She underscored the importance of showcasing female parliamentarians as influential political leaders and strengthening cooperation between the Parliament and civil society institutions.
Mahadin emphasized the need to boost female MPs' engagement within parliamentary committees to enhance their legislative influence and ensure a more inclusive democratic process.
Tamara Nasser Al-Din, President of the Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum, highlighted the significance of equipping women leaders with the confidence and technical skills necessary for effective media engagement. She stressed that visibility in media not only amplifies women's voices but also increases public awareness of pressing national issues.
As part of the project's launch, a training session was held focusing on media readiness, public communication, and strategic messaging. The session featured former minister of foreign affairs and information Marwan Muasher, who discussed media discourse and crisis communication, and Samar Tarawneh, Director of the Women's Empowerment Unit at the Independent Election Commission, who addressed the importance of women's impactful participation in politics beyond numeric representation.
The Karak Castle Center for Consulting and Training, established in 2017 and led by women, is known for its work in empowering women and youth in the political, legal, economic, and digital spheres. It promotes democratic values and human rights while supporting equitable participation in community development.
