US Sends More Military Assets to Middle East
(MENAFN) US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed on Monday that he ordered the dispatch of extra military resources to the Middle East over the weekend due to escalating hostility between Israel and Iran.
"Over the weekend, I directed the deployment of additional capabilities to the United States Central Command Area of Responsibility," Hegseth posted on X.
He emphasized, "Protecting US forces is our top priority and these deployments are intended to enhance our defensive posture in the region."
According to a defense source speaking to a news agency, Hegseth instructed the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group to move into the area overseen by US Central Command (CENTCOM) to reinforce "our defensive posture and safeguard American personnel."
Meanwhile, the official also noted that within the area managed by the US European Command (EUCOM), the US Navy is continuing operations in the Eastern Mediterranean to support "U.S. national security objectives."
Pentagon's lead spokesperson, Sean Parnell, reiterated that American forces are upholding their "defensive posture," and stressed that this approach remains unchanged.
"We will protect American troops & our interests," Parnell stated on X.
