South Africa Investigates Aircraft Crash
(MENAFN) Authorities are diligently reconstructing the final moments leading up to the crash of a Piper Cherokee in KwaZulu-Natal, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two trainee pilots and a medical student.
The light aircraft went down under circumstances that are still being examined.
The victims have been named as 23-year-old student aviators Nqobile Biyela and Lulama ‘Lwazi’ Msane, along with 20-year-old medical trainee Siphesihle Buthelezi.
All three individuals lost their lives in the heartbreaking incident.
According to a news agency, the aircraft took off from Virginia Airport in Durban over the weekend, embarking on what would be its final flight.
Siboniso Duma, the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, confirmed that both the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have commenced an official inquiry into the accident.
"A report from the Accident and Incident Investigation Division is expected within 30 days," he stated, indicating that findings regarding the cause of the crash should be available within a month.
