Investigators Probing Possible Link Between Two Cadets' Suicides
This was reported to Ukrinform by Yuliia Shevchenko, Spokesperson for the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Western Region.
"A criminal case has been opened regarding the death of the cadet from the National Border Guard Academy in Bukovyna, under Part 1, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with the classification of 'suicide'. The scene has been examined, a firearm with ammunition and the cadet's mobile phone have been seized. The body has been sent to the Chernivtsi Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination to determine the mechanism of the injuries and the causal relationship between the injuries and the cause of death," Shevchenko said.
According to her, a number of additional examinations are planned, as well as identifying and questioning witnesses. At the same time, investigators are checking whether this suicide is connected to the similar case in Khmelnytskyi.
The Spokesperson added that the case is under the supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation.
The press service of the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service confirmed that the incident occurred at a section of the Chernivtsi Border Detachment. Investigations are ongoing regarding the deaths of both cadets – in Khmelnytskyi and Bukovyna – including internal service reviews.
