Lavrov’s interview on US discussions, international relations
(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shared his thoughts on various global issues in an interview broadcast early Wednesday on Russia’s Channel 1. This interview followed a long 12-hour negotiation session between Russian and American officials in Riyadh earlier in the week.
Lavrov expressed cautious optimism regarding what he saw as positive signals from US President Donald Trump and his administration. At the same time, he criticized Western governments for their role in allegedly impeding progress towards a peaceful resolution in Ukraine.
The interview began with Lavrov acknowledging the birthday wishes he had received, including a special “marathon” of verses dedicated to him. Lavrov expressed deep gratitude for the heartfelt congratulations, especially those from President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the Federal Assembly leadership, and his colleagues. He thanked the media, particularly Channel One and other TV networks like Rossiya 1, Rossiya 24, and NTV, for their consistent support in communicating his work and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ efforts globally. Lavrov also noted birthday greetings from sports leaders, civil society representatives, and his colleagues within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Although he could not personally thank everyone due to the volume of messages, he appreciated the warm gestures and promised to review all the materials when he had time.
