Namibia’s newly inaugurated president declares first Cabinet
(MENAFN) Namibia’s newly inaugurated President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah revealed her first Cabinet on Saturday, marking a historic moment by appointing Lucia Witbooi as the country’s first female vice-president.
This milestone makes Namibia the only African nation with both a female president and vice-president at the helm.
In a ceremony held in the capital, Windhoek, Nandi-Ndaitwah swore in 14 ministers, including eight women, and seven deputy ministers. Expressing confidence in her team, she stated, “I have no doubt that we will deliver on what the people of Namibia have mandated to do.”
The President emphasized that government ministries must prioritize programs focused on poverty eradication.
She also noted, “The functions of marginalized and disability affairs will be placed in the office of the vice president to get the attention they need.” Nandi-Ndaitwah further urged Namibians to support her Cabinet as they work to fulfill their duties.
Key appointments included Elijah Ngurare as prime minister as well as Selma Ashipala-Musavyi as minister of international relations and trade, further solidifying the new administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership.
