KP Launches New Livestock Registration To Boost Meat Production

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated fresh livestock registration this year to enhance meat production. The project aims to modernize traditional cattle farming using scientific methods, benefiting both meat production and the financial stability of livestock farmers.

Originally launched as the Field Lot Feeding Program in late 2019, the initiative became operational in 2020 under the supervision of the Livestock Department. It provides farmers with training, financial aid, and modern facilities to improve meat quality and production.

Expanding Across KP

Project in-charge Dr. Momin Khan stated that the initiative has expanded across the province, registering over 80,000 cattle so far. "This year alone, 250 new livestock farms have been registered, with 1,100 animals specifically raised for meat production," he revealed.

"Previously, cattle were mostly raised for dairy purposes, and once they stopped producing milk, they were slaughtered. However, this project has introduced a structured system dedicated to meat farming, significantly increasing production," he added.

Support for Livestock Farmers

Registered cattle farmers receive financial aid of up to Rs. 4,000 per animal every three months. They are also provided with free vaccinations, medicines, and fodder to ensure healthy weight gain.

Farmers are sent to Lahore for training, where they learn modern livestock techniques and establish market connections.

Farmers Welcome the Initiative

Muneer Khan, a cattle farmer from Charsadda, shared how the project has transformed his business. "We buy livestock with our investment, but the government provides substantial support. We receive Rs. 3,000 in financial aid, fodder-cutting machines, and medicines, which have greatly improved our business," he said.

"Instead of purchasing expensive and low-quality fodder from the market, we now grow our own," he added.

Livestock officer Dr. Mazhar emphasized that registered farmers receive financial aid, vaccinations, and medicines to ensure the health and productivity of their cattle.

The project is set to conclude by the end of this year. However, organizers are urging the government to introduce more such initiatives to strengthen the meat industry further and support livestock farmers.
