S. Korea ruling party approves court verdict on Yoon impeachment

(MENAFN) On Sunday, South Korea’s leading Political faction declared that it would abide by "whatever" decree the Constitutional Court delivers regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment. This statement highlights the party's commitment to respect the legal process and its outcome.

Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party (PPP), expressed the party’s formal position in anticipation of the court’s verdict, which is anticipated to conclude the protracted political turmoil that has plagued the country since President Yoon’s failed offer to apply martial law on last December.

The eight-judge panel has not revealed a specific date for the verdict until now, although a lot of experts predict that the decision will occur in the coming days, as reported by Seoul-based news agency.

Kweon stated to the press in Seoul: "Our party's official stance is that (we) will accept the court's decision," emphasizing the party's respect for the ruling regardless of its outcome.
He added: "As you all know, constitutional trials are single-trial cases ... once a ruling is made, the outcome is binding for everyone."

Should President Yoon be removed from office, South Korea will be obliged to hold a snap presidential vote within 60 days. If returned to his former position, he will resume his duties and complete the rest of his presidential period of office until May 2027.
