SSU Detains Two Russian Agents Planning Terrorist Act In Rivne
(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained two agents of the Russian intelligence service in Rivne, who were preparing a terrorist attack near the local Police station.
According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this incident.
The suspects were planning to leave a homemade explosive device concealed in a bag near the administrative building of the law enforcement agency. The device was to be activated by calling a mobile phone connected to the explosives.
The attack was intended to occur when many law enforcement officers were nearby, with the agents remaining close to the bomb. The goal was to cause the deaths of as many police officers and civilians as possible while simultaneously eliminating the attackers as witnesses.
The SSU uncovered the Russian agents in time, thwarting their criminal intentions. Both agents were detained "in the act" while attempting to place the bomb near the police station.
At the scene, law enforcement officers seized a bag containing the homemade explosive device, as well as additional covert surveillance equipment with remote access capabilities for the Russian intelligence services.

Based on the gathered evidence, the SSU investigators plan to charge the detainees under Article 15, Part 2, and Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (an attempted terrorist act).
The suspects are currently in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison, along with the confiscation of property.
As reported by Ukrinform, earlier the SSU counterintelligence service detained a Russian agent who was planning to blow up a freight train in Rivne region and was gathering intelligence on the Ukrainian Defense Forces facilities in Lviv region.
