Israeli drone strikes coastal Rashid Street in Gaza
(MENAFN) On Sunday, an Israeli drone struck the coastal Rashid Street, located northwest of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, marking a new breach of the ceasefire agreement. According to eyewitnesses, the drone fired two missiles near a vehicle traveling on the coastal road close to the Wadi Gaza Bridge area, although no injuries were reported. The attack caused panic among Palestinians who were walking or using simple, makeshift vehicles along the street.
Under the ceasefire agreement, which began last Monday, displaced Palestinians from Gaza City and the North Governorate had started returning to their homes in the southern and central parts of the Strip after more than 15 months of displacement caused by Israel's military actions. In another violation, Israeli forces fired on Palestinian homes east of the al-Bureij refugee camp, though no injuries were reported. Forces stationed along the Salah al-Din axis in the eastern Gaza Strip also opened fire on neighborhoods in eastern Rafah, in the south.
On January 28, the Israeli military admitted to violating the ceasefire, claiming it fired on Palestinians it accused of posing a threat to Israeli forces and vehicles for allegedly entering unauthorized areas. The ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and supported by the U.S., went into effect on January 19, 2025, and includes three phases, each lasting 42 days. Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, and up to January 19, 2025, Israel, with U.S. support, is responsible for the deaths and injuries of more than 159,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, with over 14,000 still missing.
