Zelensky: Air Defense And Interceptor Missiles Are Key To Achieving Peace

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that air defense systems and a sufficient number of interceptor missiles are essential for bringing peace closer.

He said this in his nightly video address , Ukrinform reports.

In his address, Zelensky reflected on the devastating consequences of a Russian missile strike in Poltava. The attack claimed the lives of 14 people, including children. He expressed his deepest condolences to the victims' families and loved ones.

The strike also left 20 people injured, among them four children aged between three months and 12 years. Rescuers managed to save 22 people. An entire section of the residential building -from the first to the fifth floor - was completely destroyed.

"And this was just one Russian missile, bringing so much pain, suffering, and loss. That is why Ukraine – for real peace – requires guarantees. Guarantees that such evil will be stopped. Reliably," Zelensky said.

He added that this is not just about some words or a few papers, but about something that will be able to guarantee the absence of Russian terror.

"Air defense systems and a sufficient number of interceptor missiles are essential for bringing peace closer. I am grateful to all our partners who are helping us with this and who fully understand what exactly we need," Zelensky said.

Zelensky also highlighted the importance of advanced air defense systems such as Patriots and IRIS-T, as well as investments in drone technology and Ukraine's domestic weapons production. He emphasized that these elements not only safeguard Ukrainian lives but also reinforce the very possibility of peace.

In this regard, Zelensky thanked Sweden for its recently announced $1.2 billion support package. He also expressed gratitude for aid packages from Finland and Croatia.

"We are working to ensure that next week also brings the crucial decisions Ukraine needs – decisions to support our state, our people, and our army," he said.
