Kuwait Amb. In China Underlines Coop. With SCO

BEIJING, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Jasem Al-Najem said Saturday his country is interested in bolstering cooperation with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Political and security domains.
The Kuwaiti ambassador made the remarks while meeting the SCO's New Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev at the organization's headquarters in the Chinese capital.
In a press statement to KUNA, he said he had handed Yermekbayev a letter from Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, congratulating him on having been named as SCO chief for a three-year term.
He added that they discussed during the meeting bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the SCO, along with Kuwait's joining of SCO as a dialogue partner in 2023.
In this context, Al-Najem commended former SCO secretary-general Zhang Ming's participation in the fourth high-level conference on "Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation & Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms", which was held in Kuwait in November 2024.
He underlined Kuwait's commitment to maintaining peace and security and fighting terrorism as being one of the organization's key goals.
For his part, Yermekbayev voiced Kuwait's appreciation to Kuwait for its effective role at both regional and international levels, speaking highly of its continued participation in the organization's programs and activities inside and outside China.
He added that the organization always welcomes Kuwait's effective contributions, wishing more fruitful cooperation between both sides only to serve joint interests and the organization's activities. (end)
