Kuwait's Dec. Crude Oil Exports To Japan Down 15.7 Pct

TOKYO, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's crude oil exports to Japan in December 2024 declined 15.7 percent from a year earlier to 4.99 million barrels, or 16,000 barrels per day (bpd), down for the 15th straight month, government data showed Friday.
As Japan's third-biggest oil provider, Kuwait supplied 6.3 percent of its total crude imports, compared with 7.2 percent in the same month of last year, the Japanese Natural Resources and energy Agency said in a preliminary report.
For the whole of 2024, Kuwait's crude oil exports to Japan stood at 154,000 bpd, down 30.8 percent from the previous year, and took up 6.6 percent of total Japanese crude imports.
Japan's overall imports of crude oil in December fell 4.4 percent year-on-year to 2.54 million bpd, down for the 13th month in a row. Shipments from the Middle East accounted for 96.3 percent of the total, up 5.3 percentage points from the year before.
By country, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) returned to the top spot in December, with imports from the country jumping 28.6 percent from the year before to 1.16 million bpd, followed by Saudi Arabia with 1.00 million bpd, down 14.4 percent. Qatar ranked fourth with 110,000 bpd and Ecuador fifth with 45,000 bpd, respectively.
For the full year 2024, Japan's crude oil imports shrank 8.5 percent on the year to 2.32 million bpd. Japan is the world's-third biggest oil consumer after China and the US. (end)
