Iran exports around 2.226M tons of agricultural products in 1st 4 months YoY

(MENAFN) Iran exported approximately 2.226 million tons of agricultural products valued at USD1.18 billion in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-July 21), marking a 32 percent increase in value compared to the same period last year. According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), the weight of these exports also rose by 22 percent year on year, as reported by an Iranian news agency.
Pistachios emerged as the top exported item during this period, with exports valued at USD237 million, reflecting a remarkable 193 percent increase from the previous year. Overall, Iran's non-oil trade reached USD36 billion in the first four months of this year, with USD17.5 billion attributed to exports and USD18.5 billion to imports.
Based on IRICA data, Iran exported USD1.027 billion worth of agricultural products in the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 21), representing a 37 percent increase in value year on year. The weight of these exports also increased by 19 percent during the same period. Key exported items included pistachios, tomatoes, watermelons, apples, and potatoes.
In the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 19), the value of Iran’s exports of agricultural and foodstuff products rose by 22.5 percent, according to Ruhollah Latifi, spokesman of the International Relations and Trade Development Committee of Iran's House of Industry, Mining, and Trade. Iranian producers managed to export approximately USD6.3 billion worth of these products. Agro-food products accounted for 12.8 percent of the country's total non-oil exports in the previous year, with Iraq being the top destination, importing USD1.986 billion worth of these items and accounting for 31.5 percent of Iran's total agro-food exports.
