Kuwaitis Urged To Throw Weight Behind Compatriots At Paris Olympics

PARIS, July 26 (KUNA) -- Minister of State for Youth Affairs Amthal Al-Huwaila appealed to Kuwaitis to cheer on their compatriots during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, to kick-start later on Friday in the French capital Paris.
Leading the Kuwaiti delegation, Al-Huwaila, also Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, made the statement to KUNA.
The Kuwait Olympic Committee is partaking in this global event with nine male and female athletes in a number of contests, including swimming, rowing, fencing, sailing and shooting, she pointed out.
Praising Kuwait's participation in the global tournament, which continues until August 11, Al-Huwaila underlined the resolve of Kuwaiti athletes.
The State of Kuwait took part in the Olympic Games 14 times, starting with Mexico in 1968, while 1980 Moscow Olympics saw the participation of 56 athletes; the highest in Kuwait's history so far. Athens 2004 witnessed Kuwaiti females' participation for the first time. (end)
