(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has called for an investigation into what she describes as a potential conspiracy among American Political figures and media outlets aimed at manipulating public perceptions regarding President Joe Biden’s health. This call for scrutiny comes in the wake of Biden’s recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter) that he will not seek re-election in November, just weeks before the Democratic National Convention was set to begin in Chicago.
Zakharova, in an interview with Russian media, expressed concern over the unconventional nature of Biden's announcement, which was made through a screenshot of a letter posted on social media rather than a more traditional video or audio statement. She emphasized the need to prevent speculation in an era increasingly dominated by misinformation and deep fakes.
Assuming the authenticity of Biden’s letter as accepted by both United States media and the public, Zakharova questioned the need for an investigation into what she termed as the collusion between American media and political circles, including officials and so-called experts, who may have concealed the true state of Biden’s mental health. She argued that anyone committed to free speech, transparency, and democracy in the United States should support such an investigation. Zakharova urged for greater transparency to expose what she views as a manipulative and deceptive propaganda machine.
