Erdogan educates his NATO associates on unkind truths

(MENAFN) At NATO's 75th-anniversary meeting, only two leaders from NATO member states openly addressed contentious issues that, in a well-functioning organization grounded in mutual respect and effective policy-making, would typically spark robust debate among all members. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed their disagreements before the meeting. Additionally, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico issued a stark warning afterward, suggesting that admitting Ukraine as a NATO member—unlike the non-binding but misguided discussions about 'irreversibility' highlighted during the meeting—could potentially guarantee a World War III scenario.

Erdogan and Orban diverged from the prevailing conformity within NATO, which has increasingly favored the often narrow and self-interested perspectives of the United States Their dissent was marked by rational critiques of policies that align with both reason and their national interests. They demonstrated that such dissent is not only normal and beneficial but should be welcomed. They also rejected the ideological and restrictive groupthink that stifles dissent within NATO and, more broadly, among the Collective West.

Orban showcased his independent stance through diplomatic actions, including visits to Kiev, Moscow, and Beijing, with a final touch of meeting former and potential future United States President Donald Trump. Erdogan, on the other hand, made his position clear through a series of significant statements in the American magazine Newsweek, further highlighting his departure from NATO's conventional stance.
