Iran produces over 11M tons of livestock feed in 1 year

(MENAFN) According to an Iranian news agency, the head of the Iran Feed Industry Association, Majid Movafegh Ghadiri, stated that over 11 million tons of livestock feed are produced annually by 886 production units within Iran.

Ghadiri shared these insights during the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Exhibition of Poultry, Livestock, and Related Industries (IRAN PLEX 2024), held at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground from July 20 to 23.

He noted that Iranian livestock feed producers rely heavily on foreign sources, importing over 80 percent of their raw materials. This year, imports have seen significant increases: corn by 16 percent, soybean meal by 1,200 percent, soybeans by 18 percent, and barley by 37 percent.

IRAN PLEX 2024, featuring both domestic and international participants, offers a platform for professionals in the livestock, poultry, and related industries to explore the latest advancements and technologies. The exhibition showcases a variety of products and services, including livestock and poultry feed, equipment and machinery, dairy products, medicines and vaccines, packaging and processing solutions, and financial and banking services.

Organizers highlight that many foreign companies attending the exhibition are from Europe.

In a press conference before the event, Ghadiri emphasized the importance of exhibitions in improving current industry conditions. He revealed that this year's theme is "Animal Feed and Sustainable Guidance" and that the exhibition is divided into three sections with a focus on practical approaches and technological advancements, including the use of artificial intelligence.

Ghadiri also announced several key activities, including panels and roundtable discussions with deputy ministers and other officials, the unveiling of a new competitiveness promotion system for the aquatic industry, and the introduction of a five-year animal feed program.
