Third Anniversary Of US Afghanistan Withdrawal Fuels Election Rhetoric

The third anniversary of the“catastrophic” U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan coincides with election rhetoric in the United States.

Donald Trump, who is 78 years old and just three years younger than his 81-year-old opponent, Joe Biden, has been seriously campaigning for about a month. In his campaign, trump repeatedly mocks Biden from three angles, which has increased his popularity among voters.

The first angle is Joe Biden's old age, which Trump claims has resulted in weak and sometimes unusual performance. In his press rhetoric, Trump has labeled Biden as“incompetent,”“sick,” and“crooked.”

The second angle is the issue of illegal immigration to the U.S., which Trump frequently uses in his campaign rhetoric. Trump holds an anti-immigration stance and believes that the increase in crimes in the country is directly related to the rise in illegal immigration.

The third angle involves U.S. foreign policies, including the country's withdrawal from Afghanistan, its stance on the Ukraine war, and Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. Trump has used Afghanistan as a talking point to attack his electoral opponent during several speeches at the four-day national convention of the Republican Party.

In one of these speeches, Trump mentioned that Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy economic chief of the Taliban regime before August 2021, adhered to Trump's warnings during a phone call and referred to him as“Your Excellency.”

In another instance, Trump described the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as“shameful” and in another as a“stain” on America. He also claimed that this“shameful” withdrawal had emboldened America's enemies.

Trump argued that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan gave Russia the courage to invade Ukraine, where the war has continued for two consecutive years.

According to Trump, Bagram Airbase, which for years was the headquarters of foreign forces in Afghanistan and was used by the U.S. to monitor Beijing due to its proximity to China, is now under Chinese control.

This 2024 U.S. presidential candidate, who, according to polls, enjoys greater popularity among voters, also stated that American forces left behind advanced U.S. weapons worth $85 billion in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's campaign leverages the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as a critical point against Joe Biden, portraying it as a significant failure in Biden's leadership.

Trump's strategy focuses on emphasizing Biden's age, immigration policies, and foreign policy missteps to increase his appeal to voters, potentially influencing the upcoming election's outcome.
