WhatsApp to include message translation feature in new update

(MENAFN) WhatsApp is set to update its app with a new feature that enables message translation using various language packs. This aims to boost the app's attractiveness by allowing seamless multilingual communication directly within chat windows.

This update follows the discovery of a feature in WhatsApp's beta version that converts voice messages into text.

WhatsApp is currently testing a feature that uses Google's direct translation technology to let users translate messages into different languages. This new feature was found in the beta version for Android. Initially, the live translation feature will support a limited set of languages, including English, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Hindi, with more languages likely to be added in future updates.

The translation happens on the device, meaning the data remains local and isn't sent to a cloud server. This ensures end-to-end encryption is maintained, guaranteeing strong security and data privacy, in line with WhatsApp's commitment to user information protection.

To use this feature, users may need to download various language packs, with translations occurring automatically within chats. This means users won't have to leave the app to translate text messages. WhatsApp also plans to introduce an option for automatic translation of all chat messages in a future update.
