Iranian Oil Minister hails gas transfer agreement with Russia

(MENAFN) Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji hailed the recent agreement for the transfer of Russian gas to Iran as a landmark achievement in the energy diplomacy of the 13th administration. Speaking at a weekly ministerial meeting, Oji emphasized that the agreement, signed less than a month ago between Iran and Russia, is set to facilitate the transfer of Russian gas to Iran for consumption, export, and bolstering energy security across neighboring countries.

Oji expressed confidence that this agreement, termed the "Russian Gas Transfer to Iran Document," has the potential to catalyze an economic revolution and enhance energy security throughout the region via Iran's strategic positioning. He highlighted the stability in fuel delivery to power plants and gas stations across Iran, with daily distribution of up to 265 million liters of liquid fuel, valued at approximately USD67 billion annually.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Iran and Russia in late June marks a significant step towards Iran becoming a central gas hub in the region, aligning with the late President Ebrahim Raisi's vision. This move underscores Iran's strategic ambitions and its role in regional energy dynamics.

Furthermore, a subsequent MOU signed in Tehran further strengthens bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iran in the gas sector, outlining plans for the export of Russian gas to Iran. Acting President Mohammad Mokhber underscored the strategic importance of these agreements, noting that they signal a strong commitment from Tehran and Moscow to enhance bilateral relations and regional stability. Mokhber emphasized that the path towards deeper gas cooperation between the two nations will lead to greater mutual understanding and additional collaborative ventures.
