Amman, July 16 (Petra) -- Jordan Tuesday strongly condemned Israel's systematic targeting of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) buildings, head office and shelters in the Gaza Strip, in its attempt to obliterate its pivotal role of providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians under the United Nations mandate.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates' spokesman Sufyan Al-Qudah reiterated the Kingdom's "condemnation and categorical rejection of Israel's ongoing violation of the international law and international humanitarian law, targeting civilians and the headquarters of relief organizations and workers, amid international silence that encourages it to continue its actions, and in the absence of real and effective measures to stop these violations and hold those responsible to account."
Israel's attempts to undermine UNRWA, which provides vital services to Palestinians in Gaza, must be addressed by the entire international community, he said, stressing that the continuation of UNRWA's work is an absolute necessity to safeguard the issue of Palestinian refugees, particularly amid the Israeli aggression, which has been ongoing since October 7.
The spokesman renewed a call on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take prompt and decisive steps to stop "these crimes" and provide protection to Palestinian civilians and relief organizations.
UNRWA, he stressed, should be empowered to carry out its humanitarian role in providing humanitarian aid and services to Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and ensure its safety from any future attacks.
