Explosion Among Football Fans In Somalia Kills 5, Injures 20

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) International media reported that following a car bomb explosion during a Euro 2024 football match viewing in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, five people were killed, and 20 others were injured.

Reuters on Monday, July 15th, reported that the incident occurred last night at a restaurant in Mogadishu, Somalia.

According to the report, nearby buildings, including those near the Presidential Palace, were damaged after the explosion.

It is noted that the Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for this incident.

Previously, Al-Shabaab, which controls some villages and towns in southern Somalia, had claimed responsibility for attacks on security forces in major cities of the country.

Meanwhile, such incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by Somalia, particularly in urban areas, despite efforts to stabilize the region.

The impact of these attacks underscores the need for continued international support in enhancing security and stability in Somalia.
